I want to go somewhere quiet without many people. Do you have any recommendations?
We recommend the Saiko, Shojiko, and Motosuko areas, which are a little away from central Kawaguchiko.
The following three areas are especially recommended.
1. Saiko Lake
Saiko has a calmer atmosphere than Kawaguchiko and is suitable for visitors who want to take a slow walk along the lakeside or through the forest. Compared with the area around Kawaguchiko Station, where many tourist facilities are concentrated, it is easier to spend a quiet time here. It is recommended for those who want to enjoy nature. The official tourism website of Fujikawaguchiko Town also introduces this area as a place where visitors can enjoy Mt. Fuji, the lake, and nature.
2. Shojiko Lake
Shojiko is relatively small among the Fuji Five Lakes and is a good place to enjoy a quiet lakeside atmosphere. According to the Shojiko Tourism Association, it takes about 40 minutes from Kawaguchiko Station to “Shojiko” by bus bound for Motosuko. It is introduced as a spot where visitors can enjoy nature through activities such as fishing, hiking, camping, boating, and canoeing.
3. Motosuko Lake
Motosuko is a little farther from Kawaguchiko, but for that reason, it is suitable for visitors who want to spend a quiet time in nature. It is also known for the view of Mt. Fuji that inspired the design on the 1,000-yen bill. This area is recommended for those who want to relax and enjoy views of the lake and Mt. Fuji.
If you want to enjoy a quieter time around Kawaguchiko, going early in the morning or after evening is also effective. The Kawaguchiko area tends to be crowded from around 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., while early morning and evening are generally calmer and easier times to enjoy the scenery.
For transportation, you can use local buses departing from Kawaguchiko Station. However, buses to the Saiko, Shojiko, and Motosuko areas are limited, so it is recommended to check the return bus schedule before departure. Please note that bus services may become especially limited after evening.
